Fire risk assessment by UK insurers and UK fire authorities has proven that correct kitchen grease filters selection is possibly the single most important factor in reducing the possibility of kitchen extract fires.

Standard kitchen grease filters allow most of the highly inflammable grease produced when cooking to pass straight through kitchen extractor hood to collect at alarming rates on the internal surfaces of Kitchen ventilation extract systems. These deposits can then be ignited by a simple flame flare from a pan or grill, which like the grease passes easily through most baffle filters and mesh filters as fitted in convention kitchen extractor hoods. The resulting duct fire spreads rapidly throughout the grease extract system burning with intense ferocity often with horrendous and expensive consequences……Ask any insurance company.

Expensive duct work cleaning is the most common and sometime the only action taken by operators to prevent Duct fires. Unfortunately as duct inspectors and insurers will again confirm, the duct cleaning standards of many duct cleaners are often very poor and thats regardless of price paid, so the risk remains high and restaurants continue to burn down.

Many operators now install fire suppression systems within the kitchen extractor hoods. Whilst systems such as those supplied by Ansul will when correctly serviced protect the working space, most afford little or no protection against duct fires

How to find out which kitchen grease filters your UK restaurant needs.

The Loss prevention Certification Board LPCB recently published The Grease Filter Classification Standard LPS1263. This grease filter testing standard was developed by the Building Research Establishment (BRE), on behalf of the insurance industry.
LPS1263 is now promoted and explained within the latest HVCA specification DW172. (For your copy of DW172 call HVCA Publications: 01768 864 771)

LPS1263 combines the grease efficiency test VDI2052, which proves which filters catch the most grease, and the flame penetration test UL1046 which establishes which filters are the most effective fire barriers.
On completion the filter is awarded a GF rating.
The higher the GF number, the better and safer the filter.

Whilst we currently await official classification, initial evaluation of the results of practical testing in accordance with LPS1263 shows the VFT Veritech grease filter to have achieved performance levels equating to GF 103, and that will be the highest rating for any approved primary grease filter on the UK and World market today.

By installing Veritech high efficiency grease filters within your kitchen extract hoods you will substantially reduce the rate of grease deposition within the duct and the risk of flames penetrating the filter to ignite those deposits.

Duct cleaners hate it, fire authorities and insurers want it.
Who would you rather trust?

Fit the best kitchen grease filters, fit Veritech.
